Who's Among Us (whos.amung.us)

I love the simplicity of the tracking software by whos.amung.us, allowing you to better understand your website how your visitors use it.

There are two main widgets available, the original widget which comes in a variety of sizes and colors, and the maps widget.

The original widget displays how many people are currently on your website or blog. The number represents concurrent unique users, meaning no person is counted twice and once they leave your site.

The map widget is an exciting way of showing where all of the past and current visitors come from. Maps are also very customizable, the background, pin style, and colors, and size are all configurable. I have personally used that widget at www.forwardstepsblog.com (near the bottom right hand, in the side-bar).

There is no registration to use their widgets. Simply take the HTML code you see and put it on your website, or use one of the instant install buttons under the codebox for supported networks. Their widgets are free to use and they will always remain free.

The Firefox extension/addon allows you to see how many people are on your website from the convenience of your browser's status bar. It requires that you have one of the widgets installed on your site already. That extension only works with the Firefox web browser.

You can read much more about the whos.amung.us serice at their help page.

Here is a sample that I created purely for the Online Resources blog - hope it works inside this blog post!:

Customized gradient backgrounds, borders, text , buttons

free web design toolsGabriel Ross designed and has been maintaining GRSites.com since 1997. Now you know where the "GR" in the address comes from!

Gabriel lives in Montreal, Canada, with his wife Kaamini and sons Nathan and Alexandre.

He is actually a scientist by training, and completing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at McGill University. Their laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of memory in the brain.

GRSites.com began a decade ago when he found himself having trouble finding a good background texture for his first web site (long gone!) and realizing that the internet needed a good comprehensive archive of textures for use in web pages. So Gabriel made one himself, and since then it seems to have become the most popular one. He also created a web graphics archive, as well as one of fonts and sound effects.

Eventually, features were added that allows you to customize the background textures in interesting ways. And more recently, Gabriel created the Button Maker, Logo Maker, and Menu Maker features which have proven very popular indeed.

There's a whole lot more in progress at GRSites.com that you won't find anywhere else on the web, at least not for free: realistic 3D logos, complex animated Flash logos and menu systems, beautiful new button types, all fully customizable.

I hope you enjoy GRSites.com as much as I enjoy using it for my web creations...

A New Website For Listing My Online Tools

Forward Steps list of favorite online toolsI have just recently created a new web page with my favorite online tools, and this site will have more added to it, as I find more.

When I find something that does a job better than a tool I am currently using, then I will replace it with a better one.

This blog will still list and add others, plus retain the original online software, widget or tool links. This way you can select from the ones that I have collected and used over time, choosing the one that is most preferred by you.

By the way, you can even let us all know about your favorites at the Forward Steps Online Resources Links page I created as an add-on for you all.

Gmail backup

Recently, I found this handy, and very user friedly, Gmail backup tool.

If you've ever wanted to save certain emails from Gmail on your own computer just in case, then this is worth a go.

This is the next release of the GMail Backup tool - the ultimate one-click solution for doing backups of your GMail account.

Here is a screen shot of how easy it is to use...

An eCommerce Solution For Adding Revenue To Existing Sales

Have you considered adding TrialPay as a payment option for products that you have available, for sale online?

TrialPay does not replace your current e-commerce solution; instead, they provide a new way for consumers to pay that adds additional conversions and new revenue onto your existing sales.

With TrialPay, customers get your online product for free by completing one offer from brand-name advertisers. For instance, customers can send flowers from FTD or sign up for Blockbuster and get your product for free. They use money from the advertiser (FTD or Blockbuster in this example) to pay you for your product.

TrialPay currently work with some of the biggest names in the industry: McAfee, Skype, WinZip, AVG, Lavasoft, Real Networks and hundreds of other premier partners.

If you'd like to get started with TrialPay, you can sign up for a free, no-obligation merchant account. TrialPay is an absolutely free service with no registration or transaction fees.

Also, no integration is necessary with your current e-commerce provider. Simply insert a TrialPay "Get it Free" button on your site and you're ready to go!

TrialPay Referral Program

I am currently using TrialPay at my Forward Steps Triggers site. I have set the page abandonment widget script to only appear once a week for my site visitors. You have a choice to set it more, or less frequently than that. As well, you'll notice the TrialPay button that's right under my sales button at the Triggers site.

I have also added the option (using my own selected image) at these two links from the Triggers main site - Triggers Affiliates and the free Triggers Sample option

If you'd like to read more about TrialPay, here is a great background article on TrialPay that appeared in the New York Times.
